We wanted to try one of the many izakaya spots in Vancouver, but ran out of meals. I’ve had Sakagura on my mind since we returned. Descend into this hidden midtown spot and you’ll feel like you’ve left Manhattan and been transported to Japan. Here are a few of the dishes we sampled:Left: EBI SHINJO : Deep Fried Shrimp Balls Covered with Sliced Almonds
Right: FLUKE CARPACCIO : Thinly Fluke Sashimi Drizzled with Olive Oil Topped with Plum Paste, Salmon Roe and ShisoThis is a world class sake bar and they have over 200 bottles. We had no idea where to start! The server recommended 3 carafes and we worked our way through increasingly drier sakes.
KAMO ROAST : Slices of Chilled Roasted Duck Wrapped Around Scallion Accented with Basil Sauce
Don’t skip dessert! We had shochu truffles and the BLACK SESAME CREAM BRULEE with Black Sesame Ice Cream, paired with a sparkling sake.
