Obviously, this blog has been on vacation for quite a while. In the meantime, we have also taken on the occasional vacation. I’m going to get things rolling by sharing our most recent trip AND I will keep the commentary brief. Too many words seem to equal blog posts never getting published.

When you live in Connecticut, the point of Florida in February is WARM weather. Sadly, it was rather chilly for our recent visit to Captiva, but what we did find was a quiet, beautiful island that’s an easy drive from Ft Myers. Our vacation pre-requisite: a direct flight from a NYC airport (jetBlue JFK to RSW).

These first few photos are from a sunset cruise to North Captiva.

Once on the boat, I hoped to see dolphins or manatees (wisely departed for warmer waters further inland), but our wildlife sightings mostly consisted of waterfowl. We did happen upon a bald eagle and that was good enough for me.

Besides chilly weather in the 50s and low 60s, we had some considerable wind. Instead of hitting the beach, one afternoon we rented a golf cart and went off to investigate South Seas Resort.

The Sanibel Stoop:
Now I get it. Captiva and neighboring island Sanibel have beaches loaded with a never-ending selection of seashells.

Thank you to Keelin and Alan for filling our Captiva hit list. And a special shoutout to Sanibel native, Lauren Kreter of Borrowed Vintage Rentals.
Her deep love for this area and her instagram island snaps put this destination on my radar.
