Back to Vancouver Island…
After Point No Point, we continued along the western coast of Vancouver Island on BC-14 , where you can motor for miles… and not see another car. Unlike other coastal highways, there aren’t sweeping vistas of shoreline due to to the dense forests surrounding both sides of the road. We thought Port Renfrew looked like a smart place to end our scenic drive, but there’s not much there (we couldn’t even find a gas station!), save beautiful scenery. We followed BC-14 to the bitter end and got out for a short hike to Botanical Beach. We simply enjoyed the late day sun and headed back for civilization. Suddenly, Sooke was looking like a bustling metropolis. This day reminded me of the majestic and pristine views I first saw along the Icefields Parkway in the Canadian Rockies.
